SHA -256 (Secure Hash Rate) is a mathematical function that condenses data to a fixed size 256-bit (32-byte).

It enables us to compare the output from execution of the algorithm, in other words ”hash”  to a known and expected hash value, a person can determine the data’s integrity.

Hash is a one-way function – it cannot be decrypted back

SHA-256, is used for Bitcoin address creation and also for mining under Proof of work.
