Hash

Hash

A hashing algorithm is a mathematical function that condenses data to a fixed size. So, for example, if we took the sentence ” I love Blockchain” and ran it through a specific hashing algorithm known as SHA-256 we will get ”d2eb69267dcf9e10e489cf61ed6427944a99db170063f879ba150d63f79cc5df”

Hashes are suitable for situations whereas computers may want to compare, identity or otherwise run calculations against files and strings of data. It is easier for the computer to first compute a hash and then compare them than it would be to compare the original files.
